Anti-Gamergategate - The 3 important FACTs on Gaming Journalism

Posted: Wednesday 15 October 2014

IN online terminology, a troll is defined as "One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument".
This definition has stood the testimony of the modernism of the platform of the internet, as the definition of "trolls" extends now to the blogs of "reputable" journalists.
Pandering to a strict demographic always does wonders to an ignorant mindset. The propagation of "clickbait" and other "dark pattern" campaigns draw crucial cues of the declining quality of reputable journalism and the field of news all together.
The ideas of "Radial Feminism" and Social Justice Warriors will be explored later on, but this is to give context for the corruption in news in general.
On the list of "September's Most Shared Sites on Facebook" reveals "news" sites/aggregators with questionable journalistic integrity at the top.

#1 The Huffington Post (Parent: AOL inc - $2.3 billion triangle up green )

#3 BuzzFeed

#4 Fox News (Parent: Fox Entertainment Group - $13.28 billion triangle up green )

This level of bias, yet so blatantly obvious, flies past the minds of innocent readers, who are unable to establish the integrity of media, and obey the commands inside articles blindly.
News Corp. defends $1 million donation to Republican Governors Association
Rupert Murdoch, who has never been shy about making his political views known, has voted with his sizable checkbook.
Murdoch's News Corp. has made a $1 million donation to the Republican Governors Association, triggering swift criticism from Democrats that a contribution of that magnitude casts a shadow on his media properties, particularly Fox News.
"For a media company -- particularly one whose slogan is 'fair and balanced' -- to be injecting themselves into the outcome of races is stunning," Nathan Daschle, executive director of the Democratic Governors Association, said Tuesday. "The people owning Fox News have made a decision that they want to see Democratic governors go down to defeat. It's a jaw-dropping violation of the boundary between the media and corporate realm."

But I digress. It's not like it is the same in "video game journalism" then in the broader corrupt industry of mass-media isn't it? Game journalism is in their enclave free from the influences of what will drive their advertising revenue, right? I tried to be as sarcastic as I possibly can.
"Social Justice Warriors" is a more social form of clickbaiting, where instead of pageviews at stake, the integrity of whiny teenage girls are placed above their inflated egos.
Social Justice Warrior
A pejorative term for an individual who repeatedly and vehemently engages in arguments on social justice on the Internet, often in a shallow or not well-thought-out way, for the purpose of raising their own personal reputation. A social justice warrior, or SJW, does not necessarily strongly believe all that they say, or even care about the groups they are fighting on behalf of. They typically repeat points from whoever is the most popular blogger or commenter of the moment, hoping that they will "get SJ points" and become popular in return. They are very sure to adopt stances that are "correct" in their social circle.
As one Social Justice Warrior puts it,

Which is in fact the most misinformed, and biased statement that anyone could ever make. Social "Justice" Warriors only stand for themselves. They are the closest you can get to a sociopath, where their agenda is formed by what is "popular", and, as humans, gaining power is the motivation for these social justice warriors existence.
This hypocrisy is so evident, that our favourite social justice warrior corrects her own bias,

This implies that Wilson attempts to make exceptions when it supports her image, despite the hyprocrisy. In this case, the tweet above appears to be declaring that Wilson in fact, segregates and isolates a certain group of people with differing views, and hates "people" more then her favourite game "Chrono Trigger".
Yet, stumbles upon another U-Turn in order to make her biased view less relevant (like a disclosure, btw: Full disclosure, I have nothing to do with the events of GamerGate, I am merely observing it from and more critical and independent perspective)

This very sense of conflict is what drives these individuals to question their own self worth, and in order to inflate their own superiority.

As far as it appears, the media is helping facilitate lies for the sake of clickbait. Even Zoe herself comments on this issue.

I typically try not to clickbait, but fighting fire with fire is the only way to stop the spread of lies (which is why this is such a mess).
As promised, here are the 3 important FACTS's on Gaming Journalism
  1. Game Journalism is based upon a corrupt model:
Publisher Admits Game Review Scores Are Heavily Influenced By Trips, Parties, Swag
    BY WILLIAM USHER   2012-10-20 18:30:22

Hey remember that tell-all community interview with Mr. Anonymous Publisher that Kotaku moderated a few days ago? Well, one of the other tidbits that got quite a rise out of readers was a comment made about whether or not publishers pay off reviewers or take steps to influence final review scores. While the publisher admitted that they don't directly put checks in the pockets of journalists, they do wine and dine them in other ways to influence review scores in order to get a better Metacritic posting.
  2. Game Journalism often does NOT reflect the views of the community.
  3. Game Journalism is no longer "game" journalism, attacking even the core of their demographics. We have no use for them.
  4. BONUS! Depression Quest is not a game. Click here to find out more!
And also, let me leave you with this. this is not an attack on feminists. In fact, I support feminists, at least, the less radical ones. Social Justice Warriors typically reflects the views of Radical Feminism. Slogans containing the words "patriarchy" and "oppression", all reflect those of a Radical Feminist, and is applicable to "Social Justice Warriors". This, in short, means that SJWs are not for the equality of gender roles and equal rights, but they are deluded into championing the complete overthrow of males, leading to a purely dominated female society (hence the popularity of the term patriarchy).
